Roscommon Rotary President 2018/19

I have been part of the Roscommon Rotary club since 1990.  I joined really without truly understanding what Rotary is.  At the beginning, it was having lunch with other businessmen in town.  I say businessmen, because at that time, women were not part of Rotary.  I was fortunate enough to sit through my Fireside chat with the first women inducted into the club.  It was a sign of the changing times, and for the good!  I was also there when they announced they were going to take on the job of eradicating polio…. from the world.  After 30 years of dedicated work by thousands of individuals and club members, it is so close to happening!

Rotary has evolved over the past 100 plus years in many ways except for its purpose…. to serve others.  Our little club in Roscommon has accomplished so many great things over the past 60 years and I am so thankful to have been part of it.  I have seen what can be done with an idea from one individual and the combined efforts of entire club and community.  I say community because our club is a crucial part of the surrounding community, and in turn, the community has supported our efforts with amazing generosity.

As I spent more time in Rotary, I have realized what it means to be a “Rotarian”.  As President of the Club, I have come to appreciate the inner workings and key individuals who keep the club on track.  And all of the Past Presidents who have taken time out of their busy lives to lead the club for a year.   

I am thankful for this opportunity to serve the club in this capacity and for the personal growth I have already experienced working with all of you.
